About this place
Napolitan is a nostalgic staple of Japanese coffee-shop menus. Diners have remarked that Kissa Makaboi’s version stayed piping hot on its sizzling plate, and that the generous portion was satisfying. At 900 yen, it is a good choice when you want a substantial café-style meal.
Curry is another centrepiece. The special chicken curry, made with the spices of your choice and served with a boiled egg, costs 1,000 yen. One diner described fragrant spices and a deep, bitter note, while finding the heat mild. The dish is a clear choice if you fancy curry with rice, tender chicken and boiled egg. Daily curry and pork curry also appear on the menu, as does a combination of two curries.
For a break or something to follow your meal, try the blended coffee. At 550 yen, it comes in a choice of flavour profile: “robust” or “clean-tasting”. The coffee is made with specialty beans from Café de Arbiu, according to the menu. One diner paired curry with cold-brew coffee and enjoyed its clean finish and the aroma of the beans. The morning set lets you choose scrambled or boiled egg, making it an option for a weekend breakfast, too.
Kissa Makaboi offers more than lunchtime Napolitan and curry: there are morning sets, as well as drinks to enjoy in the evening. One visitor mentioned the music on the record player. It is a café suited both to lingering over coffee and to sharing a meal and a drink.
